I was born on October 24, 1980, in Drogheda, County Louth, Ireland. I live in County Monaghan, where I grew up. From my early years, I’ve been an avid reader and an avid writer. When I was ten, my primary school teacher read a book that I had written called The Magic Key out to my class, one chapter a day over six school days. I wrote my first play at age thirteen, after my secondary school English teacher asked me to write a play for my class. My first play was entitled The Kidnapping of the Millionaire’s Son.
The number of books and uncollected short stories that I wrote in my youth amount to fourteen in all.
Dark, Love, and Light is my first professional-quality book. Originally I intended the book to be a novel because novels were what I was reading: novels by Stephen King, J.R.R. Tolkien, Dean Koontz, and others. But then, one day in 2001, I bought a one-volume edition of Shakespeare’s complete works and whilst reading it, I fell in love with the medium of the play and decided to make Dark, Love, and Light a play. I had thought Shakespeare to be a great writer when I’d studied him at school, but it was not until I was deep in the reading of his complete works that his work truly impacted on me, and during this time he became my favourite writer.
In 2005, whilst I was still writing Dark, Love, and Light, I started writing a second play, Dimension Generations. In 2010, I decided to turn this second play of mine into a popular fiction novel. I am writing Dimension Generations, a fantasy novel with science fiction elements, at present.
I began work on a new second play, a general fiction play like Dark, Love, and Light, entitled The Beauty of Bread, in 2013 also.
I launched my website marcusbradyonline.com on May 15, 2013. My first play Dark, Love, and Light was released on October 1, 2013.
